Southern California Volleyball Association Announces the Passing of Ann Davenport

It is with profound sadness that the Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA)
announces the sudden passing of Ann Davenport, who passed away unexpectedly
on March 16, 2026.
Ann Davenport was a pioneering figure in the growth of youth volleyball in the United
States and a driving force behind the development of the sport in Southern California for more than five decades. Widely regarded as one of the founders of youth volleyball, and often referred to as the matriarch, or “mother” of the sport, her vision and leadership helped shape volleyball into what it is today.
Known as the “Queen of the Court,” Ann served as SCVA President and longtime Regional Commissioner. Under her leadership, SCVA became one of the most respected and influential volleyball organizations in the country, providing opportunities for hundreds of thousands of athletes to compete and excel.
Ann’s commitment extended far beyond her leadership at SCVA. She organized and oversaw hundreds of tournaments and SCVA-sanctioned events year over year, from local competitions to national qualifiers. She mentored generations of players, coaches, and administrators, and was a tireless advocate for access and inclusion in the sport she loved.
Her legacy is defined not only by her accomplishments, but by her humility, generosity, and unwavering dedication to the volleyball community. The impact of her work will continue to be felt through the countless lives she touched and the foundation she built. Ann is truly irreplaceable, and we will honor her by carrying forward her standard of excellence.
The SCVA extends its deepest condolences to Ann’s family, friends, and the entire volleyball community during this difficult time.
She is deeply loved and widely respected, and she will be profoundly missed.
With love,
Southern California Volleyball Association
